Welcome to Dark Horse Lavender!
Welcome to Dark Horse Lavender & Herb Farm!
I’m sure you’ve heard it before. Girl loves horses. Girl digs in dirt, Girl is the quintessential tomboy. Girl grows up. Reality happens and Girl (now woman) realizes you have to live with some type of income. Woman hesitantly joins corporate America. Fast forward 25 years. Woman finds horses and dirt again. Woman marries a farmer. Happiness ensues.
This is how Dark Horse Lavender and Herb Farm came to be. When there is a undercurrent that lives in your body, telling you where your will find happiness, it’s hard to ignore. Though I’ve grown herbs all my life, I planted my first lavender plant in 2019 (and had a wedding!), and the tsunami of happiness and soul fulfillment spread over a tiny 10 acre parcel in Eastern Washington State.
Now, 1800 lavender plants later, we’re well on our way to living off the land when it comes to income. Lavender is truly a miracle plant. Beautiful. Peaceful. Fragrant. Forgiving. Resilient.
Our next step is to launch “The Childrens Garden”. All children should know where food comes from, too many believe meat is meat is meat, and has always been in white packages. I want our next generation to be exhilarated when they dig a hole, plant a tiny seed, a tiny green sprout breaks the soil and through sun and rain and love becomes their sustenance. Kids need to be inspired. I was inspired by my high school freshman year Astronomy teacher, Alan Sacharow. We shared the same birthday. We were lucky enough to be one of the only high schools to have a PLANETARIUM (seriously) and he was my Carl Sagan. His amazing voice and narrative made every experience in that class magical (until I was late to class…. you can’t be late to class in a planetarium, the light screams from the door your sneaking into). The world needs more teachers like Alan Sacharow.
By bringing children who have no exposure to farming up to DHLHF and get DIRTY, I hope to have a small part in their ongoing love for all things natural. I hope to inspire. To influence. And maybe, just maybe, help in turning this crazy world around and focus on what it means to be part of, no matter how small, the great awakening.
Peace to you all - Sherrie
